Chapter 3
The strings of the music began to fade away as Sheridan
and Luis finished their beautiful waltz.
He lead her out into the starry night on the top balcony.
Luis stared into her ocean blue eyes. He tenderly placed
his hand on the side of her cheek as if he was touching a delicate piece of glass.
“You are so beautiful.” He whispered not letting go of
their intense gaze.
“No, you’re even more beautiful.” She said placing her
hand on his.
He slowly dipped his head closer to hers until their foreheads
were touching. He moved his hand to the tip of her chin and moved her lips closer to his.
As soon as their lips touched, fireworks burst in the air.
Literally.
They jumped at the startling sound but he held her as they
watched the elaborate burst of color and light illuminate the night sky.
“I want to dance some more.” Sheridan whispered in his
ear as she led him back to the ballroom.
Julian watched his sister walk over to the dance floor
with the tall, dark man. He looked familiar to him but he didn’t know how to place it.
Thats when it dawned on him.
He quickly ran over to his father, who obviously was intoxicated,
to deliver him the news.
“Father, that man dancing with Sheridan is a Lopez-Fitzgerald!
Our families enemy and the son of your deceiver!” Julian yelled as he started to head towards the couple.
Alistar moved to stop him but it was too late and Julian
walked to the middle of the dance floor. He pushed Sheridan out of the way and got in Luis’s face.
“You have no right to be here! Stay away from my sister!”
Julian barked.
“Julian! What are you doing?” Sheridan yelled.
“Sheridan he’s Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald an enemy of our family!
All he will do is try to hurt you or worse! Don’t you see?!?” Julian yelled not taking his eyes away from Luis.
“No I see only him!” Sheridan said.
“Listen, Julian I don’t mean to start anything and I would
never hurt Sheridan in any way!” Luis said calmly.
“I want you out!” Julian said until he felt a strong hand
on his shoulder.
“Julian will you please cut this out and let our guests
enjoy the party.” Alistar said leading his son away.
Hank and Beth rushed over. “Come Luis, we better get out
of here before it gets any worse!” Hank said pulling him away.
Luis turned around and stared at Sheridan the whole way
out of the house. He wanted to tear his arm off just to get back to her but Hank was too persistent.
Luis reluctantly got in the car and rode into the night.
Sheridan ran to the window and watched Luis be lead away.
She wouldn’t turn away until he was completely out of sight.
“Sheridan?” a voice from behind whispered.
She turned around slowly and behind her stood her nephew
Ethan and his fiancée Theresa Martin, the daughter of another wealthy business man.
“Are you ok?” Theresa said giving Sheridan a hug.
“Yes. Is it true Theresa? Is Luis a Lopez-Fitzgerald?”
Sheridan said shakingly.
Theresa nodded slowly, “Yes, their close friends of my
family.”
Sheridan nodded and gave her another hug.
“I’m going to head off to bed now. Good Evening Theresa.
Ethan.” She said walking up to her room.
“Julian I hate the Lopez-Fitzgeralds as well, but I will
not tolerate you disrupting any more of my parties! Do you UNDERSTAND?” Alistar said.
“Yes, Father.” Julian said as he watched him walk out the
library back to the party.
“I’ll just have to make Luis pay in another way.” Julian
said opening up the top drawer of his desk.
He fingered the shiny silver revolver before closing the
drawer back up.
