Chapter 8
A week later, Gwen sat in her office staring at her computer.
She was supposed to be doing work but she couldn’t concentrate.
“Miss Hotchkiss? The Mr. Bennett has left another message
for you.” said her secretary.
“All right thank you.”
The messages had been piling up all week and she hadn’t
returned any on them.
*Flashback*
“Hank I love laying here in your arms.” Gwen whispered.
“I love it too.”
“Gwen? I have to ask this. Does Ethan Crane pose as any
competition to me being with you?”
Very surprised by the question she answered quickly, “Of
course not Hank, me and Ethan are over and we’ve been over for a long time. I want to be with you.”
He kissed her on her forehead.
“Why are you so good to me?” Gwen stared up Hank.
“I’ve never felt this way about anyone before Gwen. I really
feel that I may be falling in love with you.”
*End
Flashback*
Gwen snapped out of her thoughts. She didn’t know why she
wasn’t returning his calls.
She was so afraid to tell him that she was really scared
of what was happening between them. She just engrossed herself in her work.
“Ms. Hotchkiss?”
“Yes?”
“Ethan Crane is here to see you shall I send him in?”
Gwen froze, “Why is Ethan here to see me?” she thought
to herself.
“Um send him in.”
Ethan walked into the door and closed it behind him. They
just sat there in complete silence for a small moment.
“Gwen we need talk.” said Ethan.
“Why is she avoiding me?” Hank said to Luis as they sat
in Hank’s office reading over some files.
“I don’t know buddy.” Luis replied after Hank had broke
down and told Luis everything that was going on between him and Gwen.
Hank was getting ready to say more when the phone rang.
“Hank Bennett.” he said into the phone hoping it was Gwen.
“Hello Hank. How are you?” Agent Hal Freeman spoke from
the other line.
“Just reading over the Johnston kidnapping file you sent
me.” Hank said disappointedly.
“Well, about that case, their are 3 agents here wanting
to take the case and I recommended you for the job. This means a hefty bonus if you can pull this off the way it
should be and seeing how well you closed the French drug cartel case. I feel you should take this opportunity.”
“Well, this an honor Hal. I really want to take this case
when do I get started.”
“You need to be in Washington in 3 days.”
“Washington??”
“Yes Hank, you’ll probably be here for a month at least.”
“A month??? Hal I need some time to think about this.”
“Thats fine Hank. If you’re going to take this case I need
you to be on the 4 p.m. flight in 3 days.”
Hank got all the information he needed and then he hung
up the phone.
“Why didn’t you take the case Hank this is big!!” said
Luis.
“I have to do something first to decide whether I’m going
to leave or not.” Hank said grabbing is jacket and jumping up.
“Where are you going?”
“To see Gwen!”
