Chapter 2
“What the heck am I doing?” Gwen said into the mirror of
her vanity.
“Why am I so nervous about having a cup of coffee with
Hank Bennett?” she thought to herself.
It was the next day and Gwen was to meet Hank at the Book
Cafe in less than an hour. She had this nagging feeling in the pit of her stomach and she just couldn’t explain
it.
So, she quickly brushed her brown hair and grabbed her
purse and dashed out the door.
Hank arrived at the Book Cafe and sat on the couch near
the back of the cafe. He ordered himself a black coffee and drank it becoming lost in thought.
“God, Gwen is really beautiful.” Then he shook the thought.
“Get a hold of yourself she’s just a friend besides why would she go for a guy like me?”
“Is this seat taken?” smiled Gwen with her iced tea.
“Hey Gwen!” Hanks heart started to race. “Right on time!”
He scooted for her to sit down.
“So......” said Hank.
“So.....” said Gwen.
“You know what Ms. Gwen Hotchkiss?? I really don’t know
a lot about you! I want to know all about you!” Hank said quickly.
“I want to know all about you to Mr. Hank Bennett!!” laughed
Gwen.
“Well, what do you want to know?” said Hank.
“Everything!!” they said simultaneously.
They laughed in hysterics.
About 5 hours and 3-4 cups of coffee later, Gwen and Hank
were laughing so hard their stomachs hurt. They had talked about everything possible in their lives. From, Hank
and his adventures growing up with Beth and Luis and his working for the FBI to Gwen and her days at boarding school
and her trips all over the world.
They didn’t realize how much time had passed.
“Oh my goodness! I can’t believe how much time has passed!”
realized Gwen.
“Well..” said Hank hesitating a bit. “Would you like to
go to get something to eat for dinner and take a walk on the wharf?”
“I would love too!” she said grabbing Hank’s hand as they
scooted out of the Book Cafe.
“I absolutely love this!” Gwen exclaimed.
She and Hank were walking along the wharf eating chili
dogs and drinking sodas.
“A little laid back than the Country club eh?” joked Hank.
“Actually....Do you want to know a secret?” Gwen said.
“I enjoy walking along the wharf or sailing on my boat
better than any fancy party or social I’ve ever gone too.”
“Really?” Hank said surprisingly.
“Yea, it seems like I do but truthfully money doesn’t mean
all that much to me. Ever since me and Ethan....broke up....I’ve begun to long for something different.”
“That is really wonderful Gwen.” Hank said turning to stare
into her eyes. Gwen couldn’t help but stare back she didn’t realize how mesmerizing his eyes were.
“So” Gwen said tearing herself away from the moment. “I’m
going sailing tomorrow would you like to join me?”
Without hesitation Hank answered “YES!”
Gwen smiled a dazzling smile at Hank. “Well I should be
going....” Her voice trailed off as she saw the sight in front of her.
Ethan and Theresa were walking arm and arm talking, laughing,
and kissing.
Gwen still wasn’t ready to handle them together.
Hank saw them too “ Gwen I......”
“Um I’m sorry Hank I should go!”
Hank watched sadly as Gwen raced off the wharf.
