Chapter 11
“She’s.....she’s Pilar daughter I found this in here she
must have left in my room by mistake.” Ethan stumbled.
Gwen could see right through that but she wasn’t going
to press it. At least not right now.
“I see I see. Well it’s good to see you.” Gwen said giving
him a quick hug before anything else.
Ethan could sense that something was different but he didn’t
know what.
“So, how have you been?” Ethan said.
“I’ve been really good I love Paris I didn’t really want
to leave. How was New York?”
“Same as always. Doing very well there.”
“I see. Ethan, about this whole quick wedding deal we really
need to talk about it.”
“I know I want to talk too. Gwen, I really have been wanting
to tell you something.”
“Me too Ethan.”
“All right, see in New York I fell.......”
“Ethan. Gwen. Glad to see you two home.” Julian walked in.
“Hello Father.”
“So, I want you two to be ready for dinner this evening.
Seascape 8:00 sharp.”
“Well Julian, Ethan and I really need to tal...”
“No excuses! Jonathon expects you home right now.”
Gwen just stared at Julian in disbelief, “I’m not 16 years
old again Julian I can go home when I’m ready.” She squeezed Ethan’s hand. “We’ll talk later Darling.”
As soon as the door shut behind her she ran out of the
mansion as fast she could. She kept running until she made it to her car. She hopped in her car and drove as fast
as she could to the wharf. As soon as she reached it she jumped out and ran as fast as she could bumping into people
on the way.
She ran and ran until she finally hit the railing of the
wharf. She leaned over the railing and just let out a heart stopping wail.
“I.....I...can..t......can...t...do.....this...” She said
staring at the water.
She reached into her blouse and pulled out the chain if
rings. She held the chain above the water.
“I don’t deserve him......I don’t deserve him....He deserves
to be happy......I don’t deserve happiness.” She whispered over and over. The chain slowly dropped farther and
farther off her hand.
“No Gwen! Don’t do it!”
Gwen shot up when she recognized his voice.
“Repeat that again Anna!” Theresa said in disbelief.
“It’s a wedding dress that needs to be done in a week.
I think that....”
“No, no. Who is the dress for?”
“Oh, sorry. The dress is for Gwen Hotchkiss. She’s getting
married a week from today to......Oh my God.” Anna stopped.
“To who? Anna to who?” Theresa pleaded.
“T.....I’m so sorry.”
“Anna! Tell me!” Theresa screamed.
“Ethan.” Anna said in a low whisper.
Theresa felt her whole world just crash around her at the
mention of his name. Tears began to fall freely from her eyes.
“I’m so sorry T......I’ll cancel the order right now! We
can get the Paris exstention money from the 3 dresses that are already being finished.” Anna said quickly.
Theresa just shook not knowing what to say.
“T...honey I’m going to hang up the phone now. If you need
me just call me.” The phone clicked dead.
Theresa sat on the ground all thoughts running through
her mind.
“I just can’t believe this......” she whispered.
She looked over at her plane ticket and whipped the tears
from her eyes.
“I won’t believe it until I see it for myself.”
She grabbed her ticket and headed out the door more determined
than ever.
Hank Bennett sat in his room at the Bed and Breakfast gathering
all of his things together.
“It’s amazing to actually think that I have my own home
now.” he said sitting down at his desk opening up the newspaper.
“When Gwen finally talks to Ethan and her family I’m going
to shout out on the highest mountain that she is my...wife.....” Hank broke off as he stared at the newspaper.
Engagement Party for Ethan Crane and Socialite Gwen Hotchkiss set
for this evening at the Seascape. The two will be married next week in what plans to be a unforgettable ceremony.......
Hank couldn’t finish the article. He just couldn’t bring
himself to do so.
“I knew it was to good to be true.”
