Chapter 36
Hank paced the area outside of Gwen’s room. Finally Doctor
Sweetman exited and gave him a friendly smile.
"You can go in now." She said, touching his shoulder. "Take care of her. She needs it."
Hank nodded and passed her, entering Gwen’s room
"Hey." She said, sitting up now and smiling.
"Hey yourself." Hank answered back, a smile creeping on his face.
"Doctor said I should be able to leave within a few days." Gwen stated as he walked towards her. He
scooped her up in a big hug and answered.
"That’s wonderful."
"Kinda. Unfortunately once I’m home I can’t do much. I think she said no extraneous activities, no work,
and no shouting or negative atmosphere." Gwen informed him.
"So basically no sex, no work, and you can’t see your parents." Hank summed up.
"I said the exact same thing!" Gwen exclaimed.
"Great minds think alike." Hank offered. Gwen smiled and scooted over, allowing space for Hank to
lay down on her bed. Hank carefully moved himself onto the bed, taking precaution not to hurt her.
"I couldn’t let you stay in that chair anymore. Plus I wanted your arms around me." Gwen quietly said.
"Selfish are we?" Hank joked.
"Only when it comes to you." Gwen sighed.
"You know how much I’ve missed you?" Hank asked, carefully wrapping his arms around her.
"Did you miss me?" Gwen replied, prompting him.
"Terribly. I couldn’t sleep. I was so worried about you, I searched areas without search warrants."
"Hank, that’s a big no-no!" Gwen mocked.
"That wasn’t the worst of it. I almost killed Luis." Hank admitted.
"Really? What he do?" Gwen said, trying to hide the amusement in her voice.
"There were two times actually. He snuck up on me in the warehouse, and then he told me that you probably
just ran off. That sent me over the edge, and if it wasn’t for Sher, he wouldn’t be standing." Hank replied
with a smile.
"Oh I can see it now." Gwen said with a yawn.
"I missed you so much that I slept in your bed every night, and the house is a wreck." Hank kissed her
forehead and lowered his voice to a monotonous whisper. "I missed you so much that if I didn’t find you
I thought I’d die. I missed you so much that I told the Director that if you weren’t found, nothing could keep
me from killing Lonovich."
"Really?" She sleepily replied. Her eyes were closed and her breathing was becoming more relaxed.
"Really." Hank whispered back. He watched as she snuggled up to him, and he held her tighter. No
matter what, he was never going to let her go.
LATER THAT MORNING (AROUND 8 AM)
Hank woke up, have a strange feeling that he was being
watched. Sure enough, there was his brother’s family, all staring at him with knowing grins on their faces.
"Well good morning Uncle Hank. Should you really be laying with her if she’s hurt?" Kay asked, pointing
at Gwen.
Before Hank got a chance to answer, Gwen spoke up. "Despite what everyone thinks, I’m not all that weak.
Plus the hospital has this miracle things called pain killers. They take the edge off." She sat up and
smiled wearily at Hank’s family.
"You’re awake!" Sam exclaimed.
"She woke up about four last night." Hank stated, getting off the bed. Kay, Jessica, and Grace ran
to give him hugs, then went to Gwen’s other bedside.
"We’re so glad you’re okay." Grace stated.
"Yeah, Uncle Hank was going crazy." Jessica added, prompting a glare from Hank.
"You’re uncle is crazy." Gwen replied with a laugh.
"I knew there was a reason I liked you when I met you." Kay commented shaking her head.
"Listen, I’d really love for you guys to chat, but we should get outta here. Gwen’s parents will be coming
soon, and she needs to talk to them." Hank stated. Jessica and Kay gave him disgusted looks, and Sam shook
his head.
"He’s right. Come on girls. We’ll be back to visit later." Grace said, pushing her husband and children
out the door. "Oh! And when you get out of the hospital, please drag that brother-in-law of mine over for
dinner. You two are always welcome."
"Thank you Grace. We both appreciate that and will take you up on that offer, I’m sure." Hank smiled.
"Yes, thank you." Gwen added. Grace smiled and headed out the door, leaving the couple to themselves.
"Your family is really great." Gwen smiled. Loud yelling cut Hank off before he could even start.
"Unlike mine." Gwen added, and straightened up, preparing for her parents entrance.
