Chapter 35
Charity and Miguel cruised up to the Bennett house and climbed out of the battered used car they had managed to
buy. The had planned on coming to the Bennett family dinner but then Charity had begged off with a stomach ache.
They would still be at home if Miguel hadn’t wanted to swing by and make sure Sam didn’t kill Luis or Kay for their
an-nouncement. Charity drug herself up the sidewalk and to the front door, still unsure, just as she had been since
she moved out, if she should knock or if she should just walk in. The question was answered for her when her aunt
burst through the door and barreled into her. The pair went crashing to the ground and Miguel was so busy helping
them up he didn’t notice the figure jogging up the path.
Henry rushed up the path concerned, he spotted the suit case and once again debated leaving Grace but instead was
forced to help her up and drag her down the walk because he had let her put some of the accounts in her own alias.
He obviously couldn’t pass for Lucy Lancaster so he pulled her along as he dashed to his car.
Miguel and Charity stood in shock wondering what was going on as Luis came tearing through the living room his
own gun drawn. He slammed by the couple and fired. Four shots, into the tires of Harry’s blue sedan. Harry shouted
and cursed and wrenched the gun from Grace’s hand as she aimed at Luis.
"You IDIOT! You can’t shoot people, no wonder you were racing out of that house!" Harry started. "Do
you think you killed anyone?"
Grace nodded and saw a look of fury pass over Harry’s face as he ducked behind a car and aimed at the figure racing
to him he yelled again as Luis slipped behind another parked car and out of sight, Harry swung his weapon and fired
the last few rounds at the porch where Miguel and Charity still stood dumbfounded, hoping to distract Luis for
long enough to hop in and hot wire a car.
Grace whimpered as she crouched behind the car and Harry slipped down beside her.
"Grace, my GOD. I told you I wanted this to go smooth, do you really think shooting people is smooth? You
dumb bitch! I can’t believe this, I should have left you years ago, I was a fool to keep you around." Henry
ranted.
Grace stared at him with glassy eyes, her darling Henry didn’t want her, she thought. Well she wondered what he
would do when she told him her little secrets. She had nothing left to lose.
"Henry, I’m sorry," she blubbered, "I just wanted to please you, I have done everything for you.
I hid your jewels, I kept your money, I covered for you, I tended to your needs, I bore your children."
Henry’s head jerked towards her.
"What do you mean you bore MY children?" He asked.
"Noah and Jessica," she said shakily, "they’re our babies, yours and mine, I would have never had
Sam’s children if I hadn’t slipped up with Kay."
Henry looked at her unable to believe her. She had hidden this all these years just like everything else.
"But Henry if you don’t want me... well, that just can’t work." She added. "No one can have you
but me. I worked to hard for that."
Henry stared in disbelief down at his stomach, she had stabbed him nearly clear through with a letter opener. He
tugged on it and felt a hot blast of pain shoot through him before it went numb. He pulled his hands away coated
in blood and looked at Grace speechless. He heard foot steps and saw several uniformed police round the car guns
pointed straight at them and he heard a low moan as the world turned black. |
