Chapter 6
Charity glanced out the window and listened to Grace hum as she baked some strange dessert. She was scared about
Miguel and Kay going off, hell any more she was just scared. She was tired of being the weird one in the family
and getting "premonitions" and feelings of evil. Why can’t I be normal for a few days she wondered.
Kay and Miguel had been sneaking around all the last week and Charity worried that her old premonition of Miguel
ask-ing Kay to marry him would come true. Her heart ached at the thought of losing Miguel. in his arms was the
only place she felt alive and normal and real. She wrapped her arms around herself and tried to shake off her melancholy
mood. She and Miguel had a date tonight and Charity had decided and then promised to Miguel that married or not
tonight was the night for them to really be together, it was their two year anniversary and it was about the only
thing Charity could think of to keep Miguel interested any longer. I love him, I know it is right, I just wish
I was more sure, she thought.
Miguel looked at her as he slipped into the kitchen, she stood gazing out the window and his heart ached at the
sight of her. He felt the small box in his pocket and swallowed hard before coming up behind her to wrap his arms
around her slender figure.
"How did I get so lucky to have you love me?" Miguel whispered in her ear.
Charity turned and smiled sweetly at him before melting into his kiss. She felt heat and hunger but also a desperate
ache and she pulled away before they embarrassed Grace.
"You two are so sweet," Grace gushed at them.
Charity rolled her eyes as Grace turned back to her baking and pulled from Miguel’s embrace. She kissed him lightly
and winked before she walked him to the door and shooed him away so she could get ready for their special night.
He held her close and pressed a soft kiss against her neck before she ducked back into the kitchen.
"Aunt Grace, Miguel and I will be home late tonight," she said, I wonder if I can talk Simone and Kay
into covering for me she wondered as Grace smiled and nodded absently. Charity dashed up to Kay’s room to ask the
biggest favor she could imagine.
"Luis.... I wish we didn’t have to hide..." Kay said to herself as she packed her overnight bag. She
turned to the door and dropped the brush and make-up bag from her hand.
"Charity?" Kay’s voice was strangled, oh no Miss Goody-goody is going to tell on me now for sure! "How
long have you been there?"
Charity’s mouth hung open, she couldn’t believe it Kay and Luis? Charity had always thought Kay had a crush on
Miguel. This defiantly changes things she thought, unable to hide her smile.
"Long enough," she said carefully, "Kay I am so happy!"
"What?" Kay said.
"I am so happy you found someone, and there is no one more prefect than a Lopez-Fitzgerald, right?" Charity
fairly bubbled. " Anyway, I was wondering if I could ask you and Simone the biggest favor? Can you cover for
me tonight and say I stayed with you?"
"As long as you don’t mind covering for me too, I am going to Luis’." Kay grinned.
Charity giggled and nodded as she dashed out to pack and let Grace know she was staying with Kay and Simone. This
will be a night to remember she thought.
Charity wore a short, simple pale pink dress that hugged her body and pilled her hair on her head in curls. She
grabbed her over night bag and stashed it outside the front door and sat on the couch to wait for Miguel. She grinned
at herself, more relieved than she had ever been knowing Kay and Miguel weren’t hiding things from her. her mouth
dropped when she saw Kay come down the stairs wearing a tight very short red dress, similar to her own but plunging
almost to her waist in the back and slit up to her hips on each side. her hair was loose and wavy and Charity thought,
Luis didn’t stand a chance. The girls grinned at each other, Kay winked as she picked up her bag and slipped out
the door.
A few minutes later the bell rang and Charity leapt off the couch and grabbed her shawl off the chair as she dashed
across the living room. She opened the door and a smile lit up her face as she saw Miguel in a suit holding out
a giant bouquet of roses in pale pink and white.
"They’re lovely" Charity breathed as she set them down and followed Miguel out into the warm late spring
night. She grabbed her bag and slid into Miguel’s new car, unable to stop smiling. |
