Ike Graham (Gere) is an off the cuff New York columnist who
always pens his column at the very the last minute. And then, one evening, in his favorite pub a drunken and scorned
man tells Ike all about Maggie (Roberts), a woman who flees from her grooms at the last possible moment. Sounds
like a match made in heaven, no??
Anti-woman Ike immediately dashes off an offensive and unresearched
diatribe against the fickle Maggie which, ultimately, gets him fired by his publisher (and former wife), because
he finally went too far, faking the facts and twisting the truths in a very unjournalistic type fashion. (Let's
take a moment to roll out eyes at this thinly stretched premise.)
The only hope for Ike is to now do a fact-based report on Maggie
and her upcoming fourth wedding attempt, which he predicts to fail like the many before. So, as he circles her
like a vulture, his prey-to-be's opinion of Ike sinks below zero.
This was an entertaining and romantic romp which I, personally,
thoroughly enjoyed. The spark we so appreciated in Pretty Woman has not waned as these marvelous actors have grown
and matured over the years. Toss in an astounding supporting cast, a tug or two on the heart strings, and you have
yourself one of the sweetest romantic comedies of the year! Julia and Richard still have that magic. Now go see
them put it to work.
